Natural Butters

Cocoa (Theobroma cacao)

A pale-yellow, semi-hard, expeller-pressed butter from the cacao tree.

This butter has a delectable chocolate aroma and is used primary to aid dry skin and the appearance of stretch marks.

Convenient small wafers can be purchased to use in personal skincare formulations.

Mango (Mangifera indica)

An off-white, semi-hard butter that is expeller-pressed from a mango tree's seed kernels.

This butter contains substantial amounts of essential fatty acids and antioxidants.  This butter should be used for nourishing and soothing dry and aging skin.  Mango butter is a great butter choice if wrinkles are a concern.

Shea (Vitellaria paradooxa)

One of the most popular butters used in skincare recipes - lotions, creams, and balms.  A velvety soft tan colored soft butter that is expeller-pressed from the nuts of the shea tree, native to Africa.  Unrefined shea has a semi-strong fragrance that's difficult to mask.  Refined shea is slightly firmer, less aromatic, and lighter in color.

Shea butter is an emollient with a thick and creamy texture.  Given its skin-softening properties, it's commonly used alone or in salves and balms.

Please note: To extend a butter's shelf life (listed below), store in an air tight container in a cool, dry location.

Cocoa butter - 2 to 4 years

Mango butter - 2 years

Shea butter - 1 year

Our raw butters are 100% natural, not hydrogenated, and do not contain preservatives or fragrances.

Please note: Unrefined shea and cocoa butter have a distinct aroma that may affect your handmade skincare product. Use refined shea and deodorized cocoa if you are adding essential oils.
